Professional and employer-led bodies are being urged to apply to join an influential new group that will support with external quality assurance (EQA) of apprenticeship end point assessment (EPA).
Applications have opened for the new Employer Directory for apprenticeship EQA.
The Institute announced its plans to move to a simplified EQA system in August 2020. The changes will see EQA delivered by Ofqual or, for integrated degree apprenticeships, the Office for Students (OfS).
The Institute is also setting up a new group of professional and employer-led organisations – called the Employer Directory - for Ofqual and OfS to draw on industry expertise. This will keep employers at the heart of protecting quality in apprenticeships.
Professional and employer-led bodies can apply to join, through the first window for applications, up to 4 February 2021
Nikki Christie, deputy director for assessment and quality assurance, said:
“I want to encourage as many professional and employer-led bodies as possible to apply to join the Employer Directory.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity to support the future of your sector. The directory will be an important tool, allowing Ofqual and the OfS to reach out to industry experts with a wealth of knowledge of their respective sectors.”
EQA is the system for ensuring quality is maintained around EPAs that apprentices must pass before they receive certification for the completion of their apprenticeships.
Partnership with industry-recognised professional organisations helps to give the evaluation process credibility with employers.
The Institute will manage the Employer Directory, including recruiting and approving organisations. Ofqual and OfS will work with members directly to commission and carry out activity in support of EQA.
There will be further monthly application windows to join the register throughout 2021.
